AUTOMATIC DEBITING AND ELECTRONIC PAYMENT FOR TRANSPORT

Objective

ADEPT II continues earlier EU work with the aim of developing and testing electronic inter-operable, open transport payment systems, particularly on roads within and between cities. The emphasis will be on specifications to integrate transponder-based services, namely toll collection, parking management, road-use pricing and road-to-vehicle information systems on both motorways and in urban areas, with smart-card services for public transport and other city facilities. The project will lead to a validated specification for a common compatible payment system and prototype interoperable smart-card meeting the needs of the entire transport sector, including multi-lane toll collection.
