SUPPORT FOR THE USE OF PRESENTLY UNSERVED AIRSPACE

Résultats exploitables

Based on the use of the STDMA datalink and GNSS information, low cost systems can equip general aviation and small and medium sized airports. These can benefit them with the same communications, navigation and surveillance concepts, under standardization, for near-future airspace navigation and control as the ones available to airline aircraft in the short-term (year 2005). The system is based on the use of information provided by the GNSS satellite constellation for the calculation of position. The information is presented to the pilot in a cockpit display, permitting the identification of the real position of the aircraft over a background map of the terrain. Information provided by GNSS is latitude, longitude, altitude and time, so this information can be integrated to obtain the bearing and speed of the aircraft. The same information provided by the on-board GNSS transponder is automatically and periodically broadcast by the STDMA datalink and so received by the ground station and surrounding aircraft, so everybody can be notified of the presence of other aircraft and avoid conflict. Additionally, the system provides, by means of the datalink, meteorological and operational information for the airspace, arriving airport, etc.
