NORTH WEST FOOD TECHNOLOGY CONSORTIUM

Objective

To train and retrain personnel in new technology and allied skill areas in the food processing and associated industries.

MAIN DOMAIN OF INNOVATION:

Training providers as innovative service centres. Consortium activities include identification of operational problems,model approaches to problem solutions,provision of training support & consultacncy at all levels.

TARGET GROUP(S):

People at work. People working in SMEs. Unqualified or less qualified. The consortium generally involves larger companies,but attention is also given to the needs of smaller firms.

OPERATING CONTEXT:

Technology transfer. Productivity improvement. Competitiveness. Focus of project has been to develop collaboration on industry wide basis to tackle common problems.

TECHNOLOGY:

Information and communication technologies. Industrial and materials technologies. Environmental related technologies. Food safety & quality based on the application of combined processes & hazard analysis critical control point (haccp).

INVOLVEMENT WITH ENTERPRISES:

Partnership between large enterprises and SMEs. Partnership with SMEs consortia. Training institute-enterprise cooperation.

INVOLVEMENT OF SOCIAL PARTNERS:

Projects managed and coordinated jointly by social partners. Joint social partnership steering/advisory groups. Funding by social partners.

RESULTS:

Training programmes/courses for advanced technologies. Development of novel monitoring devices to detect mirobial contaminants in foods during processing and storage.
