PROMOTING INTERCHANGE RATIONALE, ACCESSIBILITY AND TRANSFER EFFICIENCY

Objective

The main objective is to develop recommendations, guidelines or standards for the design of transport interchanges based upon stated requirements of users and non-users and aimed at those involved in financing or developing new or extended interchanges.
These recommendations will be compiled in the format of a user-friendly and interactive CD-ROM as well as a text-based handbook.

The guidelines will be developed from a new generic research methodology, developed previously in an exploratory award, to be validated at sites in Belgium, Germany, Spain, England, Latvia and Sweden.

An important element of the guidelines will be to disseminate the detailed research methodology, enabling planners across Europe to ascertain their own user and non-user needs themselves at low cost. These will later be used to enrich and update the guidelines.

The project is closely linked to projects MIMIC and GUIDE. A joint website is under construction and joint conferences and seminars will be held in 1999.
