Car-pooling management systems

Objective

Determination of prerequisites and basic elements for a car-pooling systems management facility in two typical applications:
- CPMS in a high density metropolitan area (commuting and shopping trips); - Occasional CPMS in rural areas with poor or no public transport.

The technical approach of this project is divided into three phases:
- A state of the art review of existing systems, identification of the shortcomings of present procedures, determination of the acceptability of such systems and analysis of the demand by different groups.
- Development of a publicly acceptable CPMS taking into account organization, administration and the exchange of data between pool members.
- Limited area field trials to determine the infrastructure necessary to the success of a CPMS.

Key Issues

Literature evaluation - state of the art review;
User demand study;
Analysis of potential incentives;
First draft specification for CPMS: Normalised Database, user interface, incentives;
Second draft specification for CPMS: Hardware and software design;
Evaluation of results;
Final report.
