Shifting cargo to inland navigation

Objective

Short and long term strategies for an improved utilisation of inland navigation mode within the scope of its impartial potentials are the main objectives to be achieved. The results will contain recommendations addressed to service providers and policy makers. These recommendations will be based on and supported by the intermediate results of the study. Concrete proposals and guidelines for pilot projects will be issued.

Tasks undertaken
* Realistic estimation of cargo quantities suitable to be shifted to the inland navigation mode
* Identification and interpretation of central hindrances for cargo shifting
* Listing and interpretation of prerequisites for a better or probably full integration of inland navigation into intermodal transport chains
* Presentation of concepts and strategies for a better utilisation of inland navigation
* Description of pilot projects proposal
