Objective
To examine the feasibility of wind/diesel systems. The objectives of the project are the following :
a) To evaluate the application of a logistical model to the introduction of wind power in Greek islands, currently employing diesel-supplied grids.
b) To analyse all the control problems provoked by the presence of wind power to the power system.
The project concerns the study of the islands of Chios and Mykonos.
Examination of knowledge and the experience gained from wind/diesel projects and particularly short term energy storage in order to evaluate the degree of wind energy integration.
The project will be executed in the following phases :
1. Preparation of the models, adaptation of the existing logistic models and development of a dynamic model for the analysts of the behaviour of a power system containing one conventional diesel power station and one or more wind farms.
2. Assembly of technical data necessary to run the models.
3. Validation of the models for the Chios and Mykonos islands.
4. Evaluation. It will examine the potential for wind integration on the islands, will also define the maximum wind penetration level and will investigate how the penetration level could be increased.
5. Conclusions.
