Objective
A 160 KW with hydraulic transmission wind turbine based on the existing 80 KW (see Project WE-422-84-NL) will be designed, constructed and installed at Schiedam,
in order to demonstrate the feasibility and the high energy conversion efficiency that can be realized by this concept.
Estimated annual yield 238 MWh.
Project abandoned due to the fact that the wind turbine manufacturer withdrew from its wind energy activities.
A BOHEMEN 160 KW wind turbine with hydraulic transmission will be constructed and installed at Schiedam in order to cover the electricity needs of an exhibition center. The design is based on the successful one of the 80 KW wind turbine installed at Winsum. The 3-bladed windrotor directly drives a high torque hydraulic pump with which the windpower is converted to hydraulic power which is transferred to the hydraulic motors on the ground. The latter ones drive a synchronous generator. As soon as maximum power is reached, the hydraulic pitch control keeps the generator power constant.
The wind turbine has 3 glass-fibre reinforced polyester blades situated at the top of a 25m tubular steel tower.
The generator is a 160 KW of synchronous type.
The cut-in speed is 4 m/s, the rated speed 15.5 m/s and the cut-out 25 m/s.
Some of the main characteristics of a hydraulic transmission wind turbine are;
- no mechanical gearbox is reguired
- the generator and large part of the control equipment can be installed on the ground.
- the hydraulic control ensures an optimum adaptation of rotor speed to guarantee a maximum output
- it allows to couple two or more wind turbines to one central generator
The estimated annual yield is 238 MWh and the cost of the KWh produced
is 0.29 HFL.
