Objective
To establish a wind farm consisted of 4 wind turbines made by Aeritalia connected to the Pantelleria electrical grid on Sicily and thus to gain experience with the installation and operation of wind farms build in a modular way. The wind turbines are upscaled versions of AIT-02 MEDIT. The objective is to reduce the costs of similar installations and evaluate the influence from the operation of wind farms connected to the main grid.
The 1 MW wind farm will be installed at Pantellerio, on Sicily, and will be consisted of 4 wind turbines made by AERITALIA. During the design phase of this project emphasis will be given to the optimum design of the electrical system, the control system of the wind farm, the position of the wind turbines in the wind farm, aiming to achieve optimum results and minimum installation and operation costs of the entire wind farm. Such wind farm forms a module to be used in the future by the wind turbine manufacturer in the design of large wind farms each one consisted of a number of such standard modules.
The wind turbines will be upgrated versions of the MEDIT machines, with 250 kW total installed capacity, 33 m rotor diameter and a 26 m high tower.
An extensive measurement programme is foreseen during the demonstration phase in order to enable the involved parties to accurately evaluate the operation of the wind farm and to draw conclusions. The project is supported by the E.E.C. onlyfor the design and the demonstration phase.
