Objectif To determine the optimal way to produce electricity and to reduce cost using a new type of 250 kW wind turbine. In addition, comparison of two methods of yawing on medium size wind turbines (free against active yawing).16 wind turbines of the recently developed type Aerotech 23 PI 250 kW, will be installed in line in the Hoeksche Waard, the Nehterlands, one of these wind turbines will be equipped with a free yawing system, to be compared with a second machine with active yawing. At the site of the installation the annual mean wind speed is about 6.3 - 6.5 m/s and the estimated annual yield is 332 000 kWh/yr per wind turbine. The total project cost is in the order of 8.6 MHFl, while only one machine is supported from the Commission. During the demonstration phase it will be possible to compare the two yawing methods as well as the stall or pitch control of the machines. The total annual yield is expected to reach 5,3 GWh/yr. In order to realize the project N.V. RED will cooperate with the manufacturer Hollandia B.V. and ECN which will perform the measurements.
