Objective
A 5 KW wind turbine will be used for water pumping with the help at an electric pump, in order to demonstrate the feasibility and the reliability of such system. Estimated annual yield is 5200 KWh (4.5 m/s).
A two bladed, 5.2m diameter, 5 KW, wind turbine will be installed at Marano sul Panaro. The produced electricity will be used for water pumping through an electric pump. The needs for water are about 15000 m3/yr of which two existing lakes can provide about 5000 m3/yr. A new lake will be build 70m higher than an existing small river, from where with the aid of the wind turbine it will be possible to pump the water. The existing lakes are located 150m from the river-level. If winds exceed 8 m/s water can be pumped up to the two lakes, otherwise it will be pumped to the lower lake. At the place of the installation the average wind speed is 4 to 5 m/s. Calculations estimate that for an average wind speed of 4 m/s the upper lakes can provide 6950 m3/yr and 7210 m3/yr respectively. The project shows a payback time of about 6 years which can be reduced to 3 years when commercialy used.
