Integration of daylighting technologies in demand side management programs: estimation of the energetical and peak load potential

Objective

The primary goal of this project is to get a reliable estimation of how the use of daylighting technologies may contribute to a reduction of total energy use in buildings, changes in the profile of peak electric loads and environmental effects. The results of the project will serve as important national planning tools to catalyze the increased use of daylighting in new and renovated buildings.
a) Precisely assess the economic significance of certain daylighting measures
b) develop long-term strategies for new and renovated buildings with respect to an optimized use of daylight in order to minimize the total energy consumption for heating, lighting, cooling and ventilation and/or to minimize the environmental impact from energy use in buildings
c) Give a profile of the potential savings in the total energy system in a regional scale and use informations gained in DSM programs.
d) Use the tested methodology for other relevant energy saving technologies.

Daylight technologies have the potential of being one of the most important energy saving techniques within the building sector in Europe. The utilization of daylight influences all over energy consumption in the buiding and is therefore an excellent pilot technology as basis for developing this combined demand and supply side studies in the building sector, but the methodology will be generally usable for other energy saving technologies and give a good basis for doing DSM studies on the building sector.
The followiong quantities will be estimated:
-the substituted amount of fuel otherwise used by conventional power production
-the impact on the otherwise necessary investments in the power system
-the environmental benefits like reduced emissions
-econmic key figures.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
