Objective
All along the Alps contour in Europe, tourist mountain resorts present many similarities : these tourist towns can distinguish themselves from others through a number of characteristics. Because of their tourist vocation, public buildings are larger and more numerous than in other local towns of similar size : they face harsh climatic conditions ; heating bills are high, and heating is necessary on a very long cold season ; the number of vehicles serving these communities, including snowploughs, is large and results in high fuel costs ; electricity expenses are also high in view of its extensive use lighting remote as well as public places, and providing power to ski-lifts or snow making machines (providing water to these machines may be problematic and power expensive as well).
The aim of this project is to make public authorities in France, Austria, Germany and Italy work together in drawing a common policy in the use and conservation of energy.
The broadlines of this proposal are :
- Carrying out Global Energy Audits in 20 different places (in the 4 above-mentionned countries). The methods used in the Rhône-Alpes Region on medium and small sized towns will be adapted to mountain resorts and used for this purpose.
- Synthesis of a recorded results
- Edition of a specific brochure 'Energy conservation in European mountain resorts'
- Organization of a workshop on this subject. It could be co-organized with some other manifestation of general interest concerning mountain activities.
