Endoscopic Multi-Spectral Optoacoustic Tomography

Objective

The ERC-MSOT (233161) proposal developed a new imaging modality, termed Multi-Spectral Opto-acoustic Tomography, applied to mesoscopic biological imaging of small animals. MSOT breaks through the penetration limit of optical microscopy and can image several millimeters of tissues in-vivo at high resolution. This performance has recently attracted the interest
of clinicians, in particular for the clinical application of the technology to address limitations of current endoscopic methods imaging the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. With millions of gastrointestinal endoscopies performed each year and a rising number of procedures due to colon screening programs established worldwide, advanced methods for endoscopic imaging appear preliminary as a viable commercialization opportunity. This ERC PoC proposal will therefore establish a proof of concept for the development and application strategy of endoscopic MSOT (EMSOT).

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: https://op.europa.eu/en/web/eu-vocabularies/euroscivoc.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
