VANADIUM AND ASSOCIATED MATERIALS BENEFICIATION OUT OF RESIDUES.

Objective

TO DEVELOP AN HYDROMETALLURGICAL PROCESS WHICH MAKES POSSIBLE VANADIUM BENEFICIATION INTO V205 FORM, FROM RESIDUES EXISTING IN THE COMMUNITY AND WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN TREATED UP TO NOW.

THE RESEARCH EFFORT WILL BE DEVOTED ESPECIALLY TO :

- THE INVENTORY AND CHARACTERIZATION OF RAW MATERIALS,

- THE LEACHING OF VANADIUM CONTAINED IN POOR PRODUCTS WITH ASSOCIATED MATERIALS RECOVERY, IN PARTICULAR CARBON, AS AN ENERGETIC ELEMENT,

- THE VANDIUM SEPARATION OUT OF SULPHURIC SOLUTION, EITHER BY SELECTIVE HYDROLYSIS OR BY SOLVENT EXTRACTION OR RESIN ION EXCHANGE.

THE RESEARCH PROGRAM CAN BE SUMMED UP AS FOLLOWS :

- INVENTORY AND CHARACTERIZATION (THE INVESTIGATION WILL BE CARRIED OUT WITH ITALIAN AND FRECH THERMAL PLANTS)

- LABORATORY STUDIES :

. EXAMINATION OF THE POSSIBILITIES OF PHYSICAL BENEFICIATION

. SULPHURIC LEACHING (OPTIMIZATION OF CONDITIONS MAKING POSSIBLE THE DISSOLUTION OF THE MAXIMUM QUANTITY OF VANADIUM; STUDY OF SOLID-LIDUID SEPARATIONS, MAKING POSSIBLE THE RECOVERY OF CARBONACEOUS PRODUCTS)

. STUDY OF THE VANADIUM SELECTIVE HYDROLYSIS

. SEPARATION OF VANADIUM BY SOLVENT EXTRACTION OR RESIN ION EXCHANGE

. STUDY OF RECUPERATION OF THE OTHER ASSOCIATED ELEMENT (NI,...)

. CHARACTERIZATION OF THE OBTAINED PRODUCTS

. SIMULATION TESTS OF FERRO-VANADIUM PRODUCTION OUT THE OBTAINED V2O5.

-PRELIMINARY ECONOMIC SURVEY FOR THE DIFFERENT PROCESSES AND THE DIFFERENT RAW MATERIALS.
