Objective TO ESTABLISH A THREE-DIMENSIONAL DISPERSION MODEL FOR HEAVY GASES AFTER ACCIDENTAL RELEASE AND POSSIBLY TO CONFINE CLOUDS BY WATER CURTAINS. THE PROJECT INCLUDES TWO PARTS: A) THE VALIDATION OF A MODEL OF GAS DISPERSION; B) THE USE OF WATER CURTAINS FOR IMPROVING THE DISPERSION OR THE CONFINEMENT OF A POLLUTANT. AS FAR AS CONCERNS A), THE EFFECTS OF OBSTACLES ON THE DISPERSION IS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT IN WIND-TUNNEL TEST AND IN A COMPUTER PROGRAMME IN ORDER TO SIMULATE THE PARTICULAR SITE CONSIDERED : INDUSTRIAL PLANTS, URBAN ENVIRONMENT OR VEGETATION. WITH REGARD TO PART B), A TWO-PHASE MODEL IS INTRODUCED IN THE DESIGN CODE IN ORDER TO COMPUTE A REAL WATER CURTAIN AND ITS EFFECTS ON THE DISPERSION OF THE GAS. WIND-TUNNEL TEST ALLOW A PARTIAL VALIDATION AND FINAL ADJUSTMENTS OF THE MODEL AND ARE COMPARED WITH FULL SCALE TESTS.
