"ON-LINE REAL-TIME" COMBUSTION FOR INCREASING ENERGY SAVINGS IN COWPERS

Objective

Application of technology involving microprocessors and digital type control loops for optimum process performance of blast furnace hot stoves with waste heat recovery system and ceramic burners.
The regulation and reduction system of rich gas (coke oven gas or natural gas) started with a short delay due to seal problems of the adjusting throttle. The realization of the "supervision and optimization through process computer" was not on time due to problems affecting both the hardware and the software faced during the phase of the micro dialogues. The experimental verification of the model was showing some problems owing to the difficulty of availability of reliable measures when the operational parameters change.
Today the system is full in operation.
First significant historical data could be presented. Prints and graphic diagrams as supplied by the process computer showed the trend of the most significant variables. The 3 years results show an improvement in the plant efficiency: about 1%.
The plant operation will be governed by a microprocessor which will regulate directly the valve and the control loops to optimize rich gas consumption (in mixed gas combustion system). The process control computer (via teleprocessing) will communicate with the microprocessor for the supervision and optimization of the process.
