Objective The aim of the research is to improve working conditions by mechanizing repetitive operations and by modifying the general way the working is organized. To achieve this aim, Charbonnages de France has called upon the Northern Region Ergonomics Group (GERN) to prepare a study of the present situation regarding the preparation and clearing of faces by analyzing the work carried out and pin-pointing factors affecting working conditions.
