Beyond EPICA - Oldest Ice

Deliverables

Logistic plan for BE-DRILLING PHASE

Logistics plan for the BE-DRILLING PHASE, taking into account all the constraints due to remoteness, harsh conditions, environmental regulations and the opportunities to use new technologies (e.g. for efficient energy provision). The deliverable D1.7 will inform WP4 and WP6 as they develop their planning deliverables.

Mini-traverse in Dome C region

Logistical preparation

Mini-traverse to Little Dome C

Logistical preparation

Quality management routine

The quality management routine will include a communication plan, standard documents, risk register, a proofreading procedure and a validation workflow.

Organisation of and participation in glaciological summer schools

Co-organisation and participation in the Karthaus summer schools “Glaciers in the Climate System”, which covers both the glaciological basics to understand ice core records as well as expert knowledge in ice core science. Early career scientists from the BE-OI consortium will be invited to this summerschool, and BE-OI senior scientists will be involved in the teaching.

Summary report of the outcome of international conference

Summary report of the outcome of the international conference at which academic stakeholders will be consulted: this deliverable will feed into WP4

Report summarising role of international partners in BE-DRILLING PHASE

Report summarising the relationship of the BE-DRILLING PHASE within the international context and the role of international partners; to include as annexes any MoUs or similar documents produced

Report on glaciological boundary conditions and implications

Report summarising the special glaciological features of the bottom-most ice and its implications for the climate record, and recommendations on how to achieve the scientific objectives of BE-DRILLING PHASE, including the best practice in core handling
