Automated Rail Cargo Consortium: Rail freight automation research activities to boost levels of quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness in all areas of rail freight operations

Deliverables

Socio-economic impact analysis, legal analysis, and freight-specific operational requirement specification ATO over ETCS

The output will be a report on the socio economic Situation, the legal barriers in Europe as well as the funtional requirements for ATO over ETCS, with the resulting deliverable D1.1.

Description of automation/optimisation requirements and capabilities of decision-making processes in marshalling yards and terminals

The task will start by classifying the different types of nodes considered in the WP (marshalling yards, terminals) and develop a common understanding and description of operational procedures and rules in these types of local hubs based on the results of previous projects. Situations with one or multiple rail operators in a single hub will be taken into account. Furthermore, a common understanding of decision processes and their optimisation and automation potential in different types of local hubs will be developed and described in a report (D2.1).

Final dissemination and communication report: publications in different communication channels, e.g. press release/ newsletter

Summary of dissemination and communication activities publications in different communication channels eg press release newsletter

Description of business processes of a network management system and the interactions/ interfaces with a Real-time Yard Management System

Description of business processes of a network management system and the interactions/ interfaces with a Real-time Yard Management System

Analysis of automated brake test for freight trains

The focuses is on automation in the nodes of the rail freight system and particularly brake testing requirements in marshalling yards to reduce lead time (D1.3).

Final pre-study for an improved methodology for timetable planning including state-of-the-art and future work plan

Modelling Requirements and Interface Specification to Yard Simulation System

Modelling Requirements and Interface Specification to Yard Simulation System

Dissemination and communication strategy / Project website and dissemination material

The aim of the dissemination strategy is to identify the most efficient ways to guarantee the maximum visibility for the project and an optimal deployment of the project results. The task will identify the means of communication and collaboration and the content of appropriate dissemination tools. The website will be a key communication instrument within the Consortium’s dissemination effort and a key dissemination instrument outside the Consortium. It will be established in alignment with the Joint Undertaking as a European reference point to provide up-to-date, easy and quick access to shared requirements and further information on the project throughout the project period.
