Contributing to a well-reasoned set of Airworthiness Standards for mass-market drones

Project description

Up, up and away and back down again safely when the mission is accomplished

The lack of harmonised standards is holding back the development of drone-related business in Europe. Studies have identified the implementation of a coherent and interoperable regulatory and standardisation framework in the EU as a potential booster for the growth of drone usage. The EU-funded AW-Drones project is providing guidance in the EU rulemaking process for civilian drones, to enable safe and reliable operations in the Open and Specific categories. The project collects existing technical standards, rules and procedures for the commercial use of drones worldwide, and critically assesses their compliance with existing and foreseen regulations to identify key information on best practices, gaps and bottlenecks, on which to build a clear framework for a European market of drone services.
