Physical degradation model-based feedback control design for efficient EV battery BMS integration

Project description

The future of battery technology is safe, efficient and versatile

As demands for energy storage escalate, ensuring the safety and efficiency of batteries is important. However, existing battery management systems often struggle to maintain optimal performance across diverse operating conditions. This challenge is particularly acute in scenarios such as fast charging and grid peak shaving, where precise control is essential. With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the PHYBATT project will develop cutting-edge algorithms and models embedded within battery management systems, PHYBATT aims to revolutionise real-time control, ushering in a new era of safe, reliable and adaptable energy storage solutions. This innovation also paves the way for exciting applications like vehicle-to-grid integration.

Objective

PHYBATT covers the development of algorithms and models to be embedded in the BMS to allow the battery to operate within the safety boundaries at any time and in each battery operating mode. The models to be developed and embedded in BMS algorithms can be applied in real-time battery control for various applications, such as (fast) charging, peak shaving in the grid and ancillary services with energy storage, leading to an improved techno-economical offering. This adds a Vehicle to Grid (V2G) mode corresponding to many support situations.
