Controlling Chirality Transfer for Efficient Circularly-Polarized Perovskite Light Emitting Diodes

Project description

High-efficiency diode emitting circularly polarised light

Circularly polarised light has exciting potential for next-generation applications such as 3D displays, quantum computing, and spintronic devices. However, creating efficient light sources with strong polarisation is challenging. With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the CP-PeLED project aims to develop innovative perovskite light-emitting diodes that combine high efficiency and strong chiroptical activity. These materials will use anionic chiral ligands to efficiently transfer chirality – key for producing circularly polarised light. Advanced spectroscopic techniques will help unveil how chirality transfer and light emission work. The ultimate goal is to create the first circularly polarised perovskite light-emitting diodes that achieve strong circularly polarised light with high efficiency.

Objective

This project aims to realise high-efficiency circularly polarized perovskite light-emitting diodes (CP-PeLEDs) by developing chiral perovskite emitters with efficient chirality transfer. The proposed approach involves the design of chiral perovskite emitters using anionic chiral ligands for direct and efficient chirality transfer and advanced circularly polarized spectroscopic techniques to unveil the fundamental mechanisms behind chiral transfer and emission process. The outcome will be the realization of the first CP-PeLEDs that simultaneously achieve high emission efficiency and strong chiroptical activity, paving the way for next-generation applications such as three-dimensional displays, quantum information processing, and spintronic devices.
