Innovative numerical methods for non-Newtonian flows and porous media

Project description

Modelling non-Newtonian flows in porous media

Understanding how fluids behave in porous materials is essential for solving challenges in areas such as agriculture, energy and environmental management. Behaving differently from regular fluids, non-Newtonian flows add some complexity to these problems. With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the InNoPor project plans to develop advanced numerical methods to solve complex problems involving these flows in porous media. Bringing together eight institutions from Germany, Spain, the UK and Chile, InNoPor should help foster international collaboration and innovation. Aligning with UN sustainable development goals, the project will create sustainable solutions and technologies that benefit both academia and industry.

Objective

The InNoPor project focuses on developing and analyzing innovative numerical methods to solve complex problems in engineering and science involving non-Newtonian flows and porous media. The project will address realistic applications such as volcanology and chromatographic filtering. The network includes eight universities and research centers from Spain, the UK, Germany, and Chile, fostering long-term collaboration. Advanced modeling of non-Newtonian flows in porous media plays a crucial role in soil remediation, water purification, and the development of sustainable technologies for agriculture, energy, and environmental management. InNoPor aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals (6, 7, 9, and 13) and aims to contribute to European sustainability and technological innovation priorities. The project seeks to create impactful solutions for academia and industry by leveraging cutting-edge numerical techniques and interdisciplinary collaboration.
