DEMONSTRATION OF ADAPTIVE GRIDDING ON ACTUAL RESERVOIR DATA

Objective

The objectives of the project are to demonstrate on several sets of actual geological and production reservoir data, provided by oil companies, that the use of an adaptative grid generator in association with an appropriate flow simulator leads to more accurate and relevant multiphase-flow reservoir simulations.
Adaptive grids give better results as long as average block size are less than equal to the size of relevant reservoir heterogeneities.
The project is divided into four distinct phases which apply to each set of actual reservoir data provided by the oil companies.
PHASE 1 concerns the processing of reservoir data (selection, format conversion, anonymous, alternative reservoir characterizations). It must provide relevant high-resolution (equiprobable) reservoir images showing the spatial distribution and heterogeneity of lithofacies and petrophysical properties.
PHASE 2 is related to the automatic generation of grids adjusted to the reservoir heterogeneities described by the alternative reservoir images issued from phase 1. It must be provide adjusted grids with blocks as homogeneous as possible for easier calculation of block average (effective) properties.
PHASE 3 involves multiphase-flow reservoir simulation on the adjusted grids generated in phase 2. It must lead to the editing of well production or injection performances and to pressure and saturation maps.
PHASE 4 aims at comparing the reservoir performancessimulated on the adjusted grids in phase 3, to those obtained from more classical reservoir simulations and to the actual production data.
