Archaeological sites protection implementing renewal energy

Objective

The archaeological complex at Buridava is located in the Carnathian mountains on the Olt River Valley (Valcea District).
This site is representative not only for research of the Geto-Dacian civilization, but also for Neolithic and Bronze ages discoveries. The archaeological excavation of Buridava Fortress which started in 1962, following a prestudy since 1958 by Prof. D. Berciu, are continuing up to date and the University of Targoviste is involved in this activity. The site is located in a remote area and the lack of on-site energy sources is the major drawback of the works. Furthermore, the conservation of the archaeological findings is very difficult due to the lack of an adequate roofing system which would protect the site.
The objective of this project is the innovative protection of the archaeological site in Buridava, through the research and develonment of high-technology methods for:
- The preservation of the historic site through the creation of a proper bioenvironmental design of internal conditions.
- The creation of a building envelope which will integrate the power supply system (PV panels) and the selective radiation filters.
- The development of a self-sufficient air conditioning system for the internal narts of the site.
The methods and the techniques used in the ASPIRE project for the location of Santorini, will be investigated and compared to those of the chosen location, so as to actually verify that the chosen concepts are applicable to different bioenvironmental conditions.
The basic benefits from the extension of the original nroject will be: - The elaboration of the generalized approaches to develop the best appropriate technologies for renewable energy implementation in cultural applications.
- The preservation and enhancement of the value of some important historical places (e.g. Buridava archaeological site).
- The establishment of real conditions for economical development in the future of this region by increasing the touristic activities.
