Objective
“That is why I am here today, to say that Europe will always choose science” (Ursula Von der Leyen, 2025). These words are at the root of our decision to present this proposal. Our university has understood them as a call to action.
Thus, the MOTYVES project offers a unique ecosystem of knowledge and entrepreneurship led by the Madrid Institute for Advanced Study, MIAS, at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) with the participation of the Casa de Velázquez (CVZ).
The main aim is to attract high-level talent in the Social Sciences and Humanities, integrate them into an interdisciplinary ecosystem that enables peak performance, and contribute to strengthening fellows’ careers. The starting point is the UAM/MIAS Tomás y Valiente (TYV) scholarship programme for excellence in SSH, inaugurated in 2017. The team of evaluators and supervisors in MOTYVES is exceptional, with extensive experience in international supervision, evaluation, and recruitment at the highest academic level.
The novelty of MOTYVES lies in strengthening the role of SSH as a means of solving emerging digital-era societal challenges in line with EU policies and the upcoming FP10. Based on the MSCA principles of i+i+i, an attractive tailor-made training programme has been designed enabling fellows to interact with a regional, national and international network that includes top-level public and private institutions. Training will cover synergies with other EC funding sources, positioning strategies in Cluster 2 Partnerships, Science for Policy, and Society Readiness Levels.
Beyond Academia, fellows will have the opportunity to interact and be in direct contact with the business environment of northern Madrid, currently Spain’s most dynamic and innovative economic region.
MOTYVES is integrated into UAM’s overall strategy to attract and retain talent and raise HE funds. It has been designed to ensure sustainable outcomes and guarantee a stable long-term career in the EU for participant fellows.
