Objective The additional proposal to the project "Isomorphous substitution in high silica zeolites" is aimed at the investigation of the adsorption properties of the synthesized new materials and at the characterization of the zeolites through the parameters of adsorption. Spectroscopic methods (UV/Vis, IR and Raman spectroscopy) will be used for measurements of the kinetical and thermodynamical parameters of adsorption from liquid phases. Correlation of the parameters of adsorption with the structure of isomorphously substituted zeolites and the type of heteroatoms is one the most important task of this investigation. The results obtained should supplement the information about the isomorphously substituted zeolites received by other groups participating in the project with other physiochenliccll methods. The investigation of sorption complexes formed on the zeolite surface, particularly colored ones, is another important point of the proposal. The effect of heteroatom incorporation on the structure of the complexes would be evaluated and the data obtained will be used to better understand the adsorption mechanism on the isomorphously substituted zeolites. For the investigation of the electronic state of the adsoorption complexes it seems to be very promising to use optically active compounds as a probe molecule in combination with circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. The CD spectra are very sensitive to the electronic and stereochemical state of the chiral molecules and the electronic transitions are usually much better resolved in CD spectra than in common UV spectra. We hope to obtain an additional information about the stereochemistry of sorption complexes on the outher surface of isomorphously substituted zeolites and inside the zeolite cavities.
