Objective
TABBY-TEAM project aims to significantly strengthen the scientific and management capacity of the Innovative Medicine Centre (IMC, Lithuania) in the field of musculoskeletal tissue engineering with leading European research organisations – University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU, Netherlands) and ETH Zurich (ETH, Switzerland), by transferring the excellence in applied biofabrication, tissue biomechanics and mechanobiology, as well as project management, enabling IMC to establish a sustainable and competitive research profile in advanced musculoskeletal tissue regeneration and European project leading. Through structured knowledge exchange, staff secondments, hands-on training, joint workshops and mentoring, IMC researchers and managers will acquire advanced technical, analytical and project management expertise. The project integrates a targeted, small-scale research component, focusing on the development and evaluation of innovative osteochondral tissue constructs that combine advanced biofabrication approaches with biomechanical conditioning. IMC will contribute its complementary expertise in extracellular vesicle (EV)-loaded biomaterial scaffolds, enabling a bidirectional knowledge exchange within the consortium. Beyond the project duration, TABBY-TEAM will establish a strong collaborative core in musculoskeletal biofabrication and biomechanics, expand IMC’s international research networks, strengthen its research capabilities and position IMC as a leading musculoskeletal engineering core in the Baltics, increasing IMC’s attractiveness. Most importantly, the project directly contributes to reducing research and innovation disparities within Europe, bringing IMC and Lithuania to a new level of expertise.
