SAVING ENERGY BY MODIFYING THE PULP PREHEAT AND PAPER FORMING PROCESSES IN PAPER MILLS

Objective

The aim of the project is to develop a paper-making process which :
a) saves energy
b) increases output
c) reduces pollution.

The innovative part of the project lies in using low-enthalpy heat to preheat pulp in optimizing the paper-making cycle. The pulp, consisting of a cellulose fiber and water mixture, reaches the desiccation bay at close to ambient temperature and at a density of 0.4%. Preliminary studies have shown the possibility of attaining an increase in output of around 10-15%, while improving the pulp flow to such a degree that the chemical substances now used to make the cellulose fibers stick to the line could be eliminated.
The MCI electricity output will be enough to satisfy the entire plant's energy needs. The final result constitutes an overall energy optimization, with notable energy savings in comparison to present energy systems.
