Objective The main aim of this project will be to increase the safety of shipping in European coastal waters by analysing the underlying factors that contribute ot the accident risk level. This will be achieved by detailed evaluation of a range of safety critical functions by recognised experts of the project partners. The effect of each function will be assessed by the construction of risk evaluation methodology and implementation of a risk model. Analysis of the model results will identify the most important influences on ship safety in European coastal traffic. The goal is to supply policymakers, regulators and parties in the shipping community with a model that gives an overview of ship risks. By using such a model, the impact of positive quality incentives or new rules and regulations on the enhancement of safety, efficiency and protection of the environment can be assessed.Task models on individual maritime issues are partly available, from previous research. The main basis has been damage records and/or traffic studies, as in earlier EU projects. This will also remain an important basis and input to risk analysis. However, in this project it is also the objective to develop methods for assessment of scenarios that include the difference between individual ships of varying standards and document the effect of new actions, rules and regulations before accident data become available. This will be achieved by using simulators as a laboratory and track records to expand the data background. % Programme(s) FP4-TRANSPORT - Specific research, technological development and demonstration programme in the field of transport, 1994-1998 Topic(s) 6.3 - Efficiency, safety and environment protection in maritime operations Call for proposal Data not available Funding Scheme CSC - Cost-sharing contracts Coordinator DET NORSKE VERITAS A/S EU contribution No data Address Veritasveien 1 1322 HOVIK Norway See on map Total cost No data Participants (9) Sort alphabetically Sort by EU Contribution Expand all Collapse all DANISH MARITIME INSTITUTE Denmark EU contribution No data Address Hjortekaersvej 99 2800 Lyngby See on map Total cost No data GEMEENTELIJK HAVENBEDRIJF ROTTERDAM (ROTTERDAM PORT AUTHORITY) Netherlands EU contribution No data Address 15,GALVANISTRAAT 3002 AP Rotterdam See on map Total cost No data INSTITUTO SUPERIOR TECNICO, UNIVERSIDADE TECHNICA DE LISBOA Portugal EU contribution No data Address Av.
