Innovative, nanostructural materials (metal and semiconductors) with novel unconventional physical, adsorption and catalytic properties

Objective

The objectives of this research project are the preparation and characterization of materials based on metal and bimetal as well as semiconductor clusters incorporated in nanoporous crystalline hosts and the understanding of structure-properties relations with respect to the electronic structure of the clusters and their modification under the influence of the host.

The research is based upon past co-operation as documented in a number of publications related to the field. It is focused on making available the infrastructure and equipment of the west European participants to scientists from the NIS institutes and on securing the infrastructure (equipment and consumables) in the institutes of the NIS participants.

The atomic structures of the composite materials will be analyzed by analytical electron microscopy, XRD, in situ XAFS and HREELS/LEED. The electronic structure of the clusters will be analyzed by UV-VIS spectroscopy and XPS, Auger. The chemical properties will be studied by FTIR spectroscopy of adsorbed probe molecules (CO, NO) or catalytic test reactions.
