MOBILITY INTERMODALITY AND INTERCHANGES

Objective

MIMIC is a cross-sectional project aimed at providing:

- a global and exhaustive picture of present and potential effectiveness and implementation issues relating to public transport interchanges,

- recommendations and guidelines for the planning, assessment and implementation of public transport interchanges.

The project focus is twofold:

1. Identification of subjective and objective measures and their assessment in relation to attractiveness of interchange, cost-effectiveness of the solutions and benefits to the different players. Four levels are examined: (i) general transport policy measures (pull and push) that can affect the interchange attractiveness; (ii) characteristics of the surrounding area and interactions with the transport system; (iii) interfaces between the feeder modes (including bicycle) and the mass transit in the interchange;(iv) human factors from the point of view of the user.

2. Assessment of the state of art and of innovative interchanges in different institutional contexts. Relevant issues include: (i) private and public infrastructure financing; (ii) arrangements between public and private partners to build the infrastructure and provide services; (iii) imputation of costs and collection of utilisation charges.
