A risk assessment of cryptosporidium parvum, an emerging pathogen in the food and water chain in europe.

Objective

This project will carry out research on-Cryptosporidium parvum, an emerging pathogen in water and food. The research will focus on the following areas:
- a) Development of methods which can be used to isolate and detect C. parvum in food and water samples.
b) Determination of the survival and infectivity of C.parvum in food and water.
c) Development of procedures for control of C.parvum in food and water.
d) A Risk Assessment of C.parvum in the food and water industry. water.
e) A Risk Assessment of C.parvum in the food and water industry.
1) Development of dedicated methods for the isolation and detection of C. parvum on food samples (beef and lettuce);
2)Methods were developed and applied to the characterisation of Cryptosporidium isolates;
3)Generation of the first reported surveillance date on C. parvum in food samples (salads, beef, and mussels);
4)Generation of the first reported studies on the persistence of C. parvum in the food environment (Beef and lettuce);
5)Assessment of the benefit of some control measures for beef, lettuce and water on C. parvum;
6)Generation of the first risk assessment models for C. parvum in food samples (beef and lettuce) and recommendations on how risk could be reduced together with some recommendations on where future research should be directed

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
