Objective
Within 3 years duration of this interdisciplinary industry related research project shall lead the switchable facade technology to the market developing a relevant, reliable, user-oriented and comprehensive knowledge basis. Laboratory testing and outdoor test cell investigation give full quantitative and reproducible data on the technology performance. The work on system reliability will be based on modified short term testing, monitoring changes in real installations and failure mode analysis as tools thus leading to a comprehensive evaluation. Evaluation of user acceptance and interactions with building installation will be monitored in pilot facades of real occupied office buildings. The geographical spread of participants allows treating the related aspects of day lighting and solar-control under different aspects. Integration in the building will be investigated in a technical engineering and an architectural way, leading to two complementary sets of guidelines. Impacts on environment and markets are covered in studies of demand assessment, energy savings and CO2-reductions as well as a restricted life cycle analysis.
