Objective The aim of the project is to implement the principles of information processing by proteins and immune networks in a new kind of computers, able to solve effectively specific problems while protected from viruses, noise, errors and intrusions. The deliverables include both software and hardware implementation of immunocomputing, as well as selected applications. Basing on an elaboration of the mathematics of immunocomputing we shall develop a software package simulating the relevant features of immune networks, as well as software tools for the following applications: evaluation of ecological indicators and anticipation of critical situations; pattern recognition, including elements of data mining; 3D visualization; management. We shall moreover fabricate "immuno-chips" as hardware implementation of immunocomputer units. We shall moreover fabricate "immuno-chips" as hardware implementation of immunocomputer units.OBJECTIVESThe objectives are:1) To equip computers with a software acting like the immune system;2) To construct "immuno-chips" being the hardware implementation of immunocomputer units;3) To implement the software tools for selected applications, namely:evaluation of ecological and medical indicators, including computation of ecological maps;pattern recognition, including elements of data mining;3D visualization of natural processes dynamics; management of complex socio-ecological systems.DESCRIPTION OF WORKOur workplan for immunocomputing involves the following six workpackages:WP1: Development of the mathematical basis of immunocomputing, serving as a common background for all other WPs aimed to specific deliverables and applications. The mathematical basis will include formal neural networks, graph grammar, language representation and knowledge based reasoning.WP2: Treatment of complex socio-ecological systems, based on the modelling techniques developed in the field of artificial immune systems. We shall develop algorithms and software tools which give to the systems (including living organisms interacting with artificial agents) the ability to synchronise or desynchronise in order to maximise the global benefit of the group. The simulation model will be applied to a case study of complex socio-ecological systems.WP3: Development of computer algorithms and software tools simulating basic features of immune systems, including learning and memory, associative retrieval, pattern recognition and classification, noise tolerance, self- organization.WP4: Development of mathematical methods, numerical algorithms and software tools directed to the solution of specific complex problems and demonstrating the added value of immunocomputing, namely: evaluation of ecological and medical indicators, including computation of ecological maps (in particular, ozone maps) and anticipation of critical situations; 3D visualization of natural processes dynamics; elements of a security system for the protection of computer networks against intruders.WP5: Fabrication and testing of immuno-chips for fast comparison of "self" and "non-self" (fault, "viruses" etc.) codes.WP6: Management and coordination of the project. The project has implemented the principles of information processing by proteins and immune networks in a new kind of computing in order to solve specific complex problems while protected from viruses, noise, errors and intrusions.
