Liquefaction around marine structures (LIMAS)

Objective

The present proposal is concerned with marine structures used to protect coastal communities against flooding and erosion. The objectives are:
(1) To investigate potential risks for failure of these structures due to liquefaction; and
(2) To prepare and disseminate practical guidelines (guidance for design and maintenance), to be developed from the proposed research. The work is organized in three tasks, consisting of twelve work packages. The first task focuses on the liquefaction processes around structures; the second task addresses the issue of the interaction between the structure, liquefaction and scour; and the third task is concerned other related processes, and implementation. The proposal contemplates the integration of the results of the present project in the form of guidelines for design and maintenance with regard to liquefaction processes related to soil/structure foundation, and also taking into consideration all state-of-the-art knowledge.
