Eu enlargement and multi-level governance in european regional and environment policies: patterns of learning, adaptation and europeanization among cohesion countries (greece, ireland, portugal) and lessons for new members (hungary, poland)

Objective

The research project focuses on facilitating the adaptation process of EU prospective new member states (Poland, Hungary) to the multi-level system of governance in the regional and environment policy areas by conceptualising learning, institutional and policy adaptation within the EU system of governance in the selected policy areas and by drawing lessons from the experience of previous enlargement waves'-Cohesion-countries (Ireland, Portugal, Greece).
This main goal of the project is to be achieved:
first, by evaluating the impact of Europeanization on the governance structures of the three unitary member states of the EU in the selected policy areas;
and second, by utilizing this research outcome in identifying the reforms that Poland and Hungary should undertake to facilitate the adjustment of their public policy structures to the -new- EU environment.
