Objective The objective of the TeDUB project is the development of a graphics-understanding interface for the community of blind computer users. The graphics domain will consist of technical drawings e.g. images containing schematics of architectural, electronic or mechanical nature. The basic information contained in these technical drawings will be extracted using image-processing methods. Understanding and interpreting the extracted items includes a close analysis of their function and modularity. The extracted information will be interpreted verbally, giving the user the option to navigate and to personalise the interpretation according to his needs.DESCRIPTION OF WORKThe workplan for the TeDUB-project consists of four major phases that are in parts strongly interlinked. The packages manifesting the work are distributed among the participants due to their individual competences. Additionally, we will install a project management that is responsible for communicating with the EU authorities and organization of the workflow. For a project that strongly depends on the help of the end users, all associated contractors will participate as evaluators and counsellors. The four phases can be outlined as follows:1.Requirements: The system and user requirements will be set up through a process of interrogating blind computer users and experts from participating organizations. It is important here to understand what is necessary for transporting graphical information to blind users.2.Development: The system development step will create and integrate modules for user interface, image processing, and content representation. This step will strongly benefit from the experience and competence of the developing participants.3.Evaluation and Validation: The intermediate results of the presentation and interaction system components will fall under the observation and testing of blind computer users. The objective of this step is to gain a constant development feedback to avoid wrong ways and to optimise the transformation of the image contents.4.Dissemination: The finally developed system in form of a prototype will be tested and evaluated again by the established end user groups and experts of the participating organizations. This step will examine the user acceptance and thus the market acceptance for exploitation.MILESTONESStart at T0, end at T36M9: Systems requirements review, conceptual work results, AcceptabilityM18: Mid-Term review, first prototype, first end user testingM32: Final review, second prototype, second end user testingM36: Presentation of the final prototype Programme(s) FP5-IST - Programme for research, technological development and demonstration on a "User-friendly information society, 1998-2002" Topic(s) Data not available Call for proposal Data not available Funding Scheme CSC - Cost-sharing contracts Coordinator UNIVERSITAET BREMEN EU contribution No data Address BIBLIOTHEKSTRASSE 1 28359 BREMEN Germany See on map Total cost No data Participants (7) Sort alphabetically Sort by EU Contribution Expand all Collapse all CITY UNIVERSITY LONDON United Kingdom EU contribution No data Address NORTHAMPTON SQUARE EC1V 0HB LONDON See on map Total cost No data F.H.
