Objective
Achieving better economic and social cohesion is one of the European Union's priorities. The overall scientific objective of this project is to identify and explain in a cross-country analysis the impact of European integration and enlargement on regional structural change and cohesion. In particular, this project will provide empirical evidence about the relationship between industrial location, regional specialization and regional per capita income in the context of European integration and enlargement. On the basis of our empirical analysis we will predict the types of potential winning and losing regions in both the current EU Member States and accession countries. Our research results will help identify challenges and recommendations for regional policy at the European, national and local levels.
