Objective Initial work on the principle of a circulating pebble bed stove has shown that continuous operation of a single pebble stove will replace the cyclical operation of three conventional stoves on a 3,000 tonne per day blast furnace. The work to be carried out will include the building of a mathematical model to understand the process to a point where a half-scale model can be constructed. Some experimental combustion and refractory evaluation together with control simulation will also be undertaken.
