Health problems, mental disorders and cross-cultural aspects of developing effective rehabilitation procedures for refugees of the war-affected countries

Objective

The objective of this project is to contribute to the creation of mental-health specific rehabilitation programmes for the victims of post-conflict communities. Analysis of host-migrant relationships in terms of interethnic/intercultural contacts and ways in which they relate to the mental health well-being of refugee adolescents and their families will help detect mechanisms that can counterbalance health hazards of sequential dramatization. This could be avoided by addressing mental-health protection, as well as better integration of refugees. Using the interdisciplinary approach (psychological, psychodynamic and anthropological)the project will integrate quantitative and qualitative (in-depth interviews) cross-cultural (6 countries) data to provide important knowledge that will contribute to the understanding of mental health problems of refugees.
