Family life and professional work: conflict and synergy

Objective

The network of 7 European research groups intends to contribute to one of the core issues of modern family life and professional work in Europe. Modernisation implies antagonisms between the needs of family life and the professional work conditions. These antagonisms can have negative effects on several levels such as health, well-being and work productivity. The proposed project investigates the influences of external and internal resources, which facilitate the compatibility of family life and professional work. Variation over cultural areas will be of special interest. To analyse these issues, the project refers to different types of information such as official European figures, psychological data assessed within a longitudinal design and an innovative type of psychological information. The development of applicable instruments and resulting evidence are basic requirements for guiding future policy making.
