Objective
Objective: Increase the European tooling industry competitiveness by increasing toolmakers' share in the total added value of the extended supply chain of final products, measurable in added value per employee per hour. Aim: Improve the competitiveness of tooling industry, mainly composed by Sees, through the improvement of product quality, the development of tools, services and business processes that meet OEM requirements, and through the promotion of high skilled and educated workers, with challenging jobs. The project includes the entire value chain of plastics processing, dealing with all tool life-cycle elements, from part tool design to extended services (including use, repair, recycling and re-use). Breakthrough:
A new paradigm of high added value tools and tool making business models based on technology and process innovation that will reposition toolmakers as key strategic partners in complex industrial value chains, through bottom-up research approach based on Case Studies, representative of major industry needs and challenges. IP-SME Project approach:
10 sub projects, of 3 types:
- 3 Case Studies involving SME tooling companies and their tools OEM end-users. Innovative technologies will be developed and implemented, tested and validated in two Demo periods, dealing with concrete orders.
- 3 Research Areas covering the tool life cycle: Part & Tool Design, Tool Manufacturing and Extended Services. Technological Solutions will be selected based on SME needs and developed in the RAs.
- 4 Sub Projects within Innovation, Training, Communication and Project Management. The consortium consists of 34 partners, of which 14 are Sees:
10 SME tooling companies;
