Objective The aim of this project is the development (based on previous research work by BFI - 7210.GB/108) of an industrially applicable ultrasonic test system for the detection of edge cracks and flaws in hot continuous casting slabs (above and below the Curie temperature of steel). The generation and reception of ultrasound is by contactless electromagnetic US transducers operating in the pulse-echo mode, using Rayleigh or longitudinal waves below the Curie point and the Lorentz effect above the Curie point.
