Objective Promoting European Traceability Excellence & Research (PETER) is an essential Specific Support Action that will provide an international forum for focusing and disseminating the results of ECs 100M Euros investment in research on food traceability. There is an urgent need for rapid consolidation and dissemination of European expertise to developing countries and SMEs so that they can have access to the global markets that now exist.Comprising an inner network of the co-ordinators of 8 key projects: TRACE (IP), Co-Extra (IP) SEAFOODPlus (IP), GTIS CAP (SSA), GeoTraceAgri (FPV-RTD), DNA-Track (FPV-RTD), Oliv-TRACK (FPV-RTD) ALCUEFOOD (SSA) and FoodTrace (FPV-CA), PETER will extend the network to include other key actors involved in EU research on traceability.The first phase of the 2 year project will focus on consolidation with the different strands of intra-European research brought together via a 3 day workshop which will address the following issues: - inter project communication and co-operation -International training programmes - European and international dissemination products - European and global standardisation activities - SME, Regulatory and Consumer stakeholder needs Following the consolidation of the intra-European programme, PETER will launch its international activities through (i) a series of international workshops and conferences (ii) a web based communication vehicle (iii) specific platforms for dialogue with industry, consumer and standardisation stakeholders.The impact of the project will be maximised through a final exploitation phase to promote initiation of international standards, and further EU research needs The project will be underpinned by the presence and substantial resources (200 partners, >60M Euro) of the 3 integrated projects (IP) within the core consortium. They will provide considerable added value to the project through use of their management, information and web based resources, project meetings, networks and contacts.
