Objective Intellectual Property (IP) is the driving force behind innovation in the technological market. Without the rights that govern the marketable potential of innovation, the commercial value of such products proves little incentive for stakeholders. However, stakeholders need to know the tools with which to protect knowledge as well as how to exploit it. In a market where the 'open innovation approach' is the norm, SMEs especially must be given assistance to compete with larger organisations when RTD activities are limited through a lack of funding, expertise, etc. By commercially exploiting knowledge SMEs can meet the challenges of their larger competitors. The use of networks is also widely acknowledged as a mechanism for triggering Innovation, and this 'cluster' approach is particularly beneficial to associate new EU Member States still initiating the process of innovative design. The IPR-Helpdesk aims to be a key player by providing first-line assistance to those seeking guidance in IPR issues. The main focus will be to provide stakeholders already participating or seeking to participate in EU-funded initiatives in fundamental issues such as knowledge transfer and protection, and also in the commercial exploitation of that knowledge.Key points:- SMEs are the main target audience for the project, and for this reason all the services are geared towards providing information accessible for non legal experts.- The Helpline is the primary tool of assistance, answering queries and assisting the Consortium with the information needed to develop the rest of the services, mainly the content of the website. Helpline and Info-service (web) will be offered in 6 languages.- The dissemination policy will focus on raising awareness of the services. Training actions are only foreseen for multipliers.-Consortium will also cooperate with other actors involved in IP and promotion of innovation in order to create synergies for users.
