Real-time exploration of virtual plant ecosystems

Objective

The synthesis of models for the simulation of plant ecosystems, like forests, is an active research topic in which the CASIA-LIAMA (Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Automation - Laboratory for Informatics, Automation and Applied Mathematics, in Bejing) is involved through the GreenLab project. These models produce a massive quantity of data, which makes difficult the visualisation of the resulting virtual plant ecosystem.

The aim of the project is to allow real-time interactive exploration of such virtual ecosystems. It is based on recent research results in the field of real-time rendering of complex 3D scenes developed by the EVASION project of INRIA (French research institute for computer science and control). The researcher, for this Marie Curie O IF project, is Philippe Decaudin; he has more than 10 years of experience in the field of computer graphics acquired in both public research laboratories and R&D department of a private industrial company. The outgoing host is CASIA, and the return host is INRIA.
