Demonstration of cost effective building integration of thin film Pv

Objective

The specific scientific and technical objectives include demonstration of: Cost effective integration of thin film PV arrays in the roof-lights of a major public building in the UK. Thin film arrays are to be incorporated in sealed double glazing units to control glare and solar gains. This technology overcomes the requirement for ventilation behind the array.

The project will demonstrate Building Integrated PVs as complementary to energy efficient and passive design strategies. The approach to the refurbishment of this type of building could be applied to many buildings of this type around Europe and is highly replicable. The project will demonstrate an innovative cladding system incorporating thin-film PV composite panel; raising public awareness of the potential of thin-film PV OE showing the potential of low-cost laminated glass PV as a building material.
