Exploitable results Integrated information and process management in manufacturing engineering The OPAL project has resulted in; an open architecture for engineering information and process management which allows the structuring and flow of engineering data and knowledge among company applications and legacy systems during various stages of the product life cycle; advanced hyper media data access which provides users with the ability to navigate easily across the company's engineering information systems using a consistent user interface and information access paradigm using hyper media facilities such as those provided by the World Wide Web; workflow management facilities which are integrated within the open architecture so that user-defined business processes can be defined, managed and operated in a platform independent manner; dedicated workflows for shop floor information services to assist users on the shop floor to retrieve and access relevant information in a format suitable to their needs (eg. text, drawings, charts, tables).
